Riichi Rising Virginia Beach ARA-certified Tournament awarding World Riichi Championship 2028 qualifying points

Entry Fee: $50 + Tax & Processing Fee

Registration Instructions: Tournament cap is 64 players. Please sign up and pay the tournament fee to confirm your entry.

Refund Policy: By submitting payment, we assume you will participate in the tournament. Refunds for withdrawals will only be honored in the case of emergencies (e.g. serious illness, flight cancellation/delays). If you are unsure about what constitutes a valid emergency, please communicate with us via email.

Awards: Trophies will be awarded for the top 4 players, in addition to:
First Place: $200 Cash Prize
Second Place: $100 Cash Prize
Third and Fourth Places: Prize pool of building blocks, plushies and cute merchandise from Setting Sun

Structure:
The tournament will be 10 hanchans of a pure cumulative format, with no cut. Prizes and rankings will be determined by the total score at the end of all 10 games. All games will be played via hand-shuffle and players are expected to be familiar with WRC gameplay etiquette as written in the 2025 WRC Rule Set.

RNO Pairing Software will be used for Swiss Pairing above 48 players.
In the event that we do not reach over 48 players, the pairings will become Full Random Scramble using “Good-Enough Golfers”.

Rule Set: The 2025 World Riichi Ruleset with the following optional modifications will be used:
Mod 2.1 – Red Fives (aka dora)
Mod 3.2 – Nagashi Mangan
Mod 4.4 – Counted Yakuman (Kazoe Yakuman)

No abortive draws allowed. Each hanchan will be 75 minutes+0; a maximum of 15 minutes of over-time will be allowed for each hanchan.

Uma/Oka:
Players will start with 30,000 points with 30,000 point return.

Mod 4.1 “Optional Uma with Red Fives” will be used with +30/+10/-10/-30 distribution. In case of a tie in raw scores, the uma will be split evenly.

There will be no oka awarded/used as per official WRC recommendation.

Penalties/Fouls:
Please note that normal penalties will be given for fouls. Please read the updated 2025 WRC penalties before the tournament.

We expect good will and fair sportsmanship from all attendees.

Food: Snacks, water, coffee, and tea on both days of the tournament are complimentary with your entry!
Lunch break will occur after Hanchan 2 on both days.

There are also plenty of delivery options within a 3 mile radius.

We urge everyone to plan accordingly and order food before the start of 2nd Hanchan to prevent deviations from the schedule.

Accomodation: There is no hotel specifically associated with the venue, but there are many options 5-7 minutes drive away from Town Center of Virginia Beach where there are plenty of hotels and accomodation. We are also right out of an interstate exit for excess accessibility! Please note that the organisational team cannot accommodate or organise accommodation for players.
