Tournament Format

Setting Sun VB is Virginia Beach's home for competitive fighting games. Every Friday at 6:30 PM we run tournament brackets for Tekken 8, Street Fighter 4/6, and Soul Calibur 2. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or just looking to learn, Friday night is your night. We have dedicated console setups with proper tournament-grade monitors and controllers. Show up, pay entry, and compete. Results are tracked and top players are recognized. Beyond Fridays, you can drop in for casual play any time we're open. Challenge other players, practice your combos, or just spectate and soak in the competitive energy.

New to Fighting Games? Friday Is the Place to Start

The hardest part of getting into fighting games is finding people to play with in person. Online ranked play is fine for warming up, but the real growth happens at the offline bracket — where you can watch your opponent's hands, talk through your matches afterward, and learn from players who have already put in the hours.

Setting Sun's Friday FGC nights are explicitly built for that. Brackets are casual-competitive: the matches count, but everyone gets pulled aside between games to break down what happened. Beginners are paired up early so they get reps without being thrown straight into a 5-year veteran. Nobody is going to grief you for picking a low-tier character or for missing a punish.

If you have only played fighting games on your couch, your first Friday at Setting Sun will feel like leveling up overnight. You will lose a lot. You will learn faster than you have in months. And by the third or fourth visit, you will be the one showing up early to run sets with friends.

What to Bring on Friday Night

Your controller

Pad, arcade stick, hitbox, or Leverless — all welcome. We have spares to borrow if yours dies mid-bracket. Wired only on tournament setups.

Your main

Pick one character and commit to learning them. Switching mains every week is the fastest way to plateau. Pocket characters are fine, mains are mandatory.

An open mind

Watch other matches. Ask players how they hit a specific combo. The community here is one of the most generous in the Hampton Roads FGC.
